It’s been a busy year. And more. I’ve moved from discovering how my first novel should end, started working on a serialized fantasy series, and, most recently, honed in on a writing style I believe will work for readers, but is also enjoyable for me to craft. All very important things.
I haven’t done much in the way of reflection, which I believe every writer should.
Please let me point out I just used the word writer when referring to myself. That is not a typical event. I know the experts tell us “If you write, you are a writer” and do believe it to be a truth, yet I’ve long struggled to do so. Still, I am writing and will continue to do so, so ‘writer’ I am. Perhaps when I’ve published something, most likely online and not in print, I will consider myself an author.
Which brings me back to my original intent, which is reflection. Even as I wrote and wrote and edited and edited and even as I received feedback, some of which I didn’t really enjoy, I still felt like an outsider. The last month changed all of that, forcing me to review how I picture myself.
Thus this website. And a challenge to myself to follow up on a regular basis. Because a writer should write and sometimes writing on our own journey is important, because every adventurer should maintain a map.
